Arnold Mc Letchie
I am 45 and soon to be 46 years old. and I have been teaching at St Marys College since the 21st March 2003. Though the “3’s” follow me I have also taught Form two and for many years I was a form teacher for either Form 1 or Form 2. I am also a French teacher and I have done my studies (French Literature and Linguistics) at the Université des Antilles et de la Guyane, Schœlcher campus. After which I lived for about ten years working as a teacher of English as Second Language, was an interface with a deaf student (I did French Sign Language modules 1-11) at a Public Secondary School and also worked as a Freelance Interpreter (Fr/Eng-Eng/Fr). I returned to Trinidad in 2001 where I continued to teach first at Bishops Anstey High School and then at St. Mary’s in 2003. While at CIC, I was fortunate to be one of the teachers to be trained in Common Sense Parenting (CSP) in order to work and do workshops for parents. I have also gained a wide range of experiences in the areas of current affairs, National and International security issues, health and education through my experiences in interpreting for the Ministries of Health, Energy and National Security, CARICOM, CARIFORUM, ACS, OAS, UNESCO, CIFAD ( French based Inter-Ministerial Agency for The Training to Fight Against the Drug Trade). During my teenage years I was very active in church as an altar server, as President of the Junior St. Vincent de Paul Conference of the Assumption Church and Coordinator For the Youth the North West region. (All this while at school until I began Tertiary Studies in Martinique. In the past I accompanied my Form 6 students to Martinique and organized an exchange with a student from Guadeloupe. I hope to make this a standard feature of St Mary’s College. I have always used my contacts so that our students pay only: Air fair* / travel Insurance and transfers. Totalling no more than $4500 TTD ( lodging and board offered by the family) for no less than a 10 day stay. I enjoy teaching, for it’s my passion and proud to be part of the body of educators who can empower our young ones to be great Citizens and Leaders of tomorrow on whom we can certainly depend.
